ASIAN AMERICAN WOMEN’S AGENCY AND POSTCOLONIAL THEORY

Abstract This paper is about Asian American women’s agency from its own cultural context. Pastoral counselors working in a Western context with Asian American women do well to remind themselves that Asian American women function in a different cultural context and that this significantly affects their ways of thinking, acting, responding, and exerting power. In this sense, the issue of Asian women’s agency is crucial for helping them understand who they are, as well as for pastoral psychotherapists who journey with them to redefine how they understand Asian women’s agency and identities.
