Bioremediation in the Marine Environment

One of today’s most rapidly growing bioscience-based technological fields is marine biotechnology. The term “marine biotechnology” refers to the assembly of research and developmental activities in the biological, chemical and environmental sciences that occur in or are related to the marine environment (Zilinskas, Colwell, Lipton & Hill, 1995). Of the subfields of marine biotechnology that hold particular economic promise, bioremediation is high on the list (Payne, 1997).
