Set-Valued Analysis and Differential Inclusions

Set-valued analysis is an important component of the study of differential inclusions, which in turn provide an efficient tool for the modelling and analysis of dynamic phenomena which evolve from external actions, either under control or in a state of uncertainty. Intensive research in this field has been carried out during the past decade, and significant results have been obtained in both the qualitative theory and constructive methods. Topics like optimal control, viability, the deterministic treatment of the issues of sustainability, adaptive control, and stability of uncertain systems are among the main motivations for this development.
IIASA's Systems and Decision Sciences Program (SDS) has vigorously promoted this development, with a major emphasis on the methods for modelling, constructive analysis and decision-making under uncertainty. The papers in this volume represent a selection of expanded and updated talks which were were first presented at an SDS sponsored workshop. This selection presents a distillation of some of the most important work in the field, spanning many countries and schools of thought, and bringing the subject up to date. This book will be extremely valuable to research workers in mathematical control theory, as well as in such fields as economics, biology, and systems science.
