The Art Versus the Science of Interferometry: How can it be Absolute?

High precision interferometric measurements require very careful scientific procedures as well as intuitive leaps and creative adjustments to measurement techniques so that viable results are generated. This paper looks at what this author calls the art of interferometry. The intangible aspects of measurements are ruminated over and an example of a measurement work of art is presented.
