THE PRODUCTION OF GLUCAGON ANTIBODIES IN RABBITS

There are two major problems in the production 01' glucagon antibodies for radioimmunoassay.' The first is to obtain antibodies which give a steep and sensitive standard curve. The second problem is the specificity 01' the antisera towards pancreatic and gut GLI. It is evident that an antiglucagon serum should not be used to measure glucagon levels in blood unless its cross-reaction with gut GLI has been investigated, because the values obtained may reflect the pancreatic glucagon alone or pancreatic glucagon plus a smaller or greater part 01' the gut glucagon.
