Ultraviolet Optical Constants of Anthracene

The real and imaginary parts n and k of the refractive index of anthracene in both the a and b crystallographic axis directions are obtained in the wavelength region 220 to 400 mμ. These optical constants are derived from the reflectivity by the Price—Robinson method. The conditions under which this technique can be validly applied to anthracene are discussed. The results are compared with absorption and refractive index data obtained by others in the vicinity of 400 mμ, and found to be in agreement.
