Arc-control devices for use on all-dielectric, self-supporting, optical cables

All-dielectric, self-supporting, optical cables strung on power transmission lines can suffer from electrical degradation, which is now generally acknowledged to be caused by dry-band arcing. The author shows that arc-control devices are a credible line of enquiry in the search for methods of preventing dry-band arcing damage on self-supporting optical cables, and have a reasonable chance of success.
