Design and fabrication of a low-cost single board portable GPS data logger

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a revolution in technology that is able to provide digital coordinates and elevation information for any location on the earth through the constellation of 24 satellites. Desktop Geographic Information System (GIS) which utilizes Computer Aided Design (CAD) and maps the digital coordinates. GPS data is gained momentum in the market lately. In this research, the design and fabrication of a single board on chip GPS data logger system is presented. Along with GPS core, a TMP100 linear temperature transducer IC serves as the temperature sensor and for the data logger on chip memory as been used. The work involves design of a complete product that offers the following solutions such as precise position which includes latitude, longitude, altitude, and global time from the GPS receiver and accurate temperature from a TMP100 linear temperature transducer IC. AST-230 processor is a heart of the design which compiles executes and process the information received from the on chip GPS receiver. For the software development cycle the programming language Embedded C is used. The proposed model is implemented and fabricated on a real-time circuit and can be used by the end user for the practical applications.
