Load Response to Voltage Variations and Dynamic Stability

This paper discusses the influence of the load response to the voltage on the stability of a power system. A theorical study is undertaken in an attempt to understand the process involved. This is followed by an examination of the effects on the stability of the Hydro-Québec power system. It appears that critical values of the Characteristic coefficients of the load exist, below which the system becomes unstable, and that even for a system as large as Hydro-Québec's it is advisable to adjust the controls of the excitation systems in terms of these coefficients.
