This report describes the vehicle fuel consumption estimation computer program, ARFCOM (Version 1.0). The program runs on a personal computer (PC). It can be used to estimate the fuel consumption of vehicles ranging from small cars to articulated trucks with several trailers. A small number of easily observable vehicle parameters are required and other vehicle parameters can be specified if known, or default values used. Ten default vehicle classes can be specified. The program can use the following types of speed and road geometry data: instantaneous speed data with or without separate road geometry data; data on a road section with an intersection; road section data with speed and road geometry data for subsections (for rural applications); drive mode speed profile data; and running or average speed data. A detailed description of the input and output for the computer program, including examples, is given. The method of supplying input data is by line type. The different forms of vehicle and speed data are entered on lines of a particular type. Either detailed or summary output of the vehicle parameters and fuel consumption results can be produced. To estimate default parameters the program reads external files which can be modified by the user to suit different areas of application (A). The ISBN of the microfiche version is 0-86910-398-9.
