Linear and rotational air gesture detection using optical sensors setup in automotive infotainment system

Gesture recognition is highly challenging in the field of automotive Infotainment for system control. In this paper the technique proposed begins by detecting and tracking the rotation of the hand trajectory and determining the variations in the hand locations and finally recognizing the gesture movement. The proposed method detects the rotational gesture movement by determining the angle of the object with respect to three sensors arranged in the form of an equilateral triangle. The rotational gesture is determined with respect to 360 degree rotations where the angle is determined with respect to 60 samples. It is that the resulting information of angle measurement can detect the direction of the gesture movement using three optical sensors to be used in Automotive Infotainment like media playback etc.
