Design of medium-size dielectric bifocal lenses for wide-angle beam scanning antennas

This paper describes the design of medium-size bifocal lens antennas (BLA) for multibeam antennas (MBA) applications. The radiation characteristics of the BLA are compared to those of plano-spherical lens antennas (SLA) and integrated lens antennas (ILA) in order to highlight the advantages of BLA configurations in terms of scan loss, half power beamwidth and radiation patterns for wide scanning angles.
