Magnetic imaging of conductivity

The conductivity distribution of an object can be estimated by injecting current with surface electrodes and by measuring the magnetic field thus generated. We call this method magnetic impedance tomography (MIT). A model experiment demonstrates how conductivity variations can be determined using the source estimation techniques of biomagnetism. Better knowledge of conductivity distributions obtained with MIT may help improve the accuracy of locating brain activity with magnetoencephalography (MEG) or electroencephalography (EEG).
