A PDA-based portable wireless ECG monitor for medical personal area networks

This paper describes the development of a remote monitoring system for ECG signals. In order to achieve this goal in an economic way, we suggest the implementation of portable monitors based on consumer products such as PDA and digital acquisition cards. Several patient health monitoring scenarios where this platform may be applied are outlined, and a versatile system architecture design to fit them all is proposed. The system provides remote monitoring of one or several patients wearing a portable device equipped with wireless connectivity based on different technologies such as Bluetooth, WIFI or UMTS
