Torque management strategy for hybrid electric vehicles

The energy management strategy is one of the key technologies for hybrid electric vehicles, HEVs. The torque management strategy described in this paper is based on a static energy management strategy. A forward HEV model developed in Matlab/Simulink was used to simulate the TMS for driving and braking modes. The simulation results show that the power partitioning between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the electric motor is optimized when the torque is the major control variable and the analysis is based on the ICE static efficiency MAP. The torque management strategy, which combines the demands of the driver and the characteristics of powertrain, provides optimized energy management to improve HEV efficiency.
