Online Voltage Security Assessment

This chapter deals with Voltage Security Assessment (VSA) and its online application. Methods for contingency analysis are briefly reviewed. The associated concepts of transfer capability, loadability limit, and secure operation margin are explored in some detail. Methods for preventive security control are outlined. An application of online VSA in the control center of a real system is then described and typical results available to operators are presented.
