Comparative seismic analyses of a framed tube with localized and general non‐linearity

In this paper the seismic response of a 30 storey framed tube is examined. A description is given of an analysis procedure utilizing a linear substructure to represent the building superstructure, achieving considerable economy in computational effort. Localized non-linearity in the form of transient foundation uplift is included as a response feature. Comparisons of substructured to non-substructured analyses for the same ground motion are made. Lastly, the effects of more generalized superstructure non-linearity are examined by comparing the results of such an analysis to those described above.
