Design of Control System for Battery Cascade Charging Power Supply

Electromagnetic launch (EML) system needs large energy to realize the high current discharge for launching, so that the requirement of pulse power energy increases rapidly in the EML experiments. In recent years, some scientists focus on provide enough energy for the EML system and a new method of charging the power module by the battery cascade charging power supply (BCCPS) is proposed. By using the BCCPS, the fast charging with high-voltage and large-current can be realized, but some restrictions of the BCCPS need to be dealt with, such as the fault protection, the sequential control, and the insulation of the battery. In this paper, a BCCPS’s control system is designed, which uses the digital signal processor as the main controller. The components of the control system, such as fiber communication system, voltage feedback system, protection circuits, loads grouping system, and sequence setting system, are used to enhance the performance of the BCCPS. The control system is used in a ten levels BCCPS and the experiment waveforms proved that it can work effectively.
