An examination of host involvement in VFR travel

A study was conducted of VFR travel to the Albury Wodonga area by examining hosts' involvement in this activity. It revealed that residents are prolific hosts who welcome visitors on average six time a year. Moreover, they incur direct incremental expenses that are estimated to be about 25% of expenses incurred by their guests. While being a key component of the local tourism industry, however, VFR travellers tend to grossly under-utilise the area's built attractions. To a large extent, this is attributable to hosts' lack of awareness of these facilities when planning activities.
