Vortex rings in internal combustion engines: modelling versus experiment

Previously developed vortex ring models are reviewed. The time evolution of the location of the region of maximal vorticity and the region, where the velocity of the fluid is equal to zero, are described. The predictions of the models are compared with the results of experimental studies of vortex rings in gasoline engine-like conditions. The data analyses are focused on the determination of the time evolution of the locations of the regions of maximal vorticity and the axial velocities in these locations.
