Analysis of Fieldbus Communication Traffic based on Real Time Bus Monitoring and Configuration Data

This paper presents an analysis of the communication bandwidth for a Foundation Fieldbus (FF) network based on both bus monitor data and the respective channel configuration. The bus monitor data provides the on-line traffic monitoring while the cyclic messages and function blocks schedule can be loaded from a channel configuration description file. The analysis proposed is afterward applied to four closed control loop configurations and the results show how is the behavior of a fieldbus system when there is a change on the number of active transmitters and on the macrocycle configuration.
