United States‐Japan Seminar on Auditory Responses from the Brain Stem

Methods for the study of brain stem responses are now familiar and so is the pattern of electric response of the brain stem to brief acoustic stimuli. The seminar provided a very useful survey of the present state of the art and its application in each of several areas. It appeared that methods are now so well established that standardization of equipment, nomenclature and procedures should be initiated. Standardization and also normative values for latency relative to age, etc., were discussed at some length, and a questionnaire concerning present usages and procedures was circulated among the participants. This is probably the beginning of an effort to crystallize opinion where possible and to take concerted action to promote standardization.
