Les AA. repondent a la critique de J. A C. Baum et W. W. Powell sur les processus de legitimation qu'ils avaient etudies a partir de travaux sur l'industrie automobile europeenne. Ils affirment avoir pris en compte le caractere multidimensionnel du phenomene dans leurs analyses socio-politique, economique, financiere. Ils defendent l'utilisation du modele de « densite-dependance » en montrant que ces critiques ne proposent pas d'analyse alternative rigoureusse tout en reconnaissant que, du fait de sa complexite, on peut aborder le phenomene sous d'autres angles
