Transparent OLED Displays

Abstract: Displays based on organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are currently entering the market predominantly in mobile applications. In the future, OLED displays could even be transparent, which will enable a large number of applications that are beyond the reach of current display technologies. In this chapter we will have a closer look at AMOLED concepts and will address the technology behind transparent OLEDs. Approaches to achieve a transparent encapsulation for transparent OLEDs will be discussed. Finally, the recent progress in transparent driver electronics required for transparent AMOLED displays will be discussed.
