This volume covers all unintentional injuries. One section is devoted to motor vehicles. Here it is reported that between 1912 and 1997, motor-vehicle deaths per 10,000 registered vehicles were reduced 94%, from 33 to about 2. In 1912, there were 3,100 fatalities when the number of registered vehicles totaled only 950,000. In 1997, there were 43,200 fatalities, but registrations soared to more than 214 million.
