Shared concentration output queueing switch with middle buffer at input of Batcher-banyan network

Shared concentration output queueing (SCOQ) switch with middle buffers at a Batcher-banyan network is proposed in order to decrease packet loss probability due to packet contention at the Batcher-banyan network. The proposed model consists of L switching modules and has a simple structure when L is small. The switching module consists of filters, Batcher-banyan network, middle buffers and output buffers. The proposed model can decrease the arrival rate at the middle buffer by using filters and reduce packet loss due to blocking in the Batcher-banyan network by the middle buffer. It is shown by numerical calculation and computer simulation that our proposed switch is useful to decrease the number of stages in Batcher-banyan networks and the packet loss probability.
