Fiber access maintenance leverages

The introduction of fiber systems in North America has progressed from long haul transmission applications of the interexchange carriers to the interoffice and feeder networks of the local exchange companies. Installation of fiber in each of these areas has provided carriers with improved system performance, service c apability, and operations, administration, and m aintenance (OA&M) advantages. Many American operating companies now wish to extend and realize the resulting advantages of fiber deployment to the distribution plant using a form of fiber to the curb (FTTC) architecture.
