Distribution, biology, ecology and management of potato tuber moth, Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae): A review

Abstract Among the major insect pests of potato, the potato tuber moth Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) is important in both field and storage. The biology of the pest, studies of spatial distribution, sampling technique, effect of density dependent and Independent factors, losses caused and economic threshold levels are reviewed. Various management strategies such as agronomic practices, biological and chemical control are discussed. Attempts to identify the potential components of management of potato tuber moth are made.
