Application of 3S and VR Technologies in Environmental Planning

Based on the basic connotation and function of 3S and VR technologies, this paper analyzes the applications of 3S and VR technologies in environmental planning. Citing the construction planning of Changsha as an example of demo eco-city development in China, this paper analyzes the basic ideas and operation methods in application. This paper makes a thorough study of the technical handling of a number of key issues, including the use of 3S to process environmental information from point, line and polygon sources and to produce digital maps, and the use of VR to construct geometry-based virtual environment and image-based virtual environment.
