Angular correlations for 12C(p, p′γ)12C: (II). Overlapping resonances and the missing 52− level in 13N

A technique has been established for the handling of many overlapping resonances in angular correlations of the 0+ → 2+ → 0+ kind and this has been applied to the 7 MeV region in 19N excitation in an effort to establish the usefulness of angular correlations in deciding the assignment of the 7.4 MeV state in 13N. An in-plane correlation experiment has been performed and the results are compared to this theory. The 52− assignment appears to be favoured.
