Simulation analysis of zero modal transient characteristics of single-phase earth fault

A simulation modal of non-solidly grounded system is presented to analyze the transient characteristics of single-phase-to-earth fault and to improve the earthed fault feeder selection criterion based on transient signals. Overall simulating calculation and analysis on diverse fault conditions is preceded by using Electro-Magnetic Transient Program ATP. The time domain and frequency domain characteristics of transient zero modal voltage and current are acquired by analyzing the simulating data. Amplitude characteristics and polarity characteristics are also discussed in the paper. Furthermore, the influence of Petersen coil, transition resistance, location of fault and initial fault phase angle is considered too. (6 pages)
