The Evolution of Co-inventor Networks in Advanced materials: Combining Technical Change with Industrial Transformation

We have illustrated how the evolution of advanced material sector, i.e. TiO2 photocatalyst is successfully explained by network analysis. By using several network index, we test those hypothesis of (a) the function of university-industry collaboration brings about the structure of co-inventor networks with star scientists positioning at the hub of the network and (b) in the phase of emergence, industrial performance of the TiO2 photocatalyst is determined by their network properties. Also, we propose those findings of (a) the co-inventor networks are composed of subnetworks and the interaction among sub-networks determines the pattern of network formation. Mechanism of network formation differs among sub-networks and the difference is explained by the network properties.
