Voltage Regulation Using a Driven-PMSG with Static Compensator

Wind power is often operated at power factor is unity and the utility host where the wind power inserted prefers to regulate the voltage. The main purpose of this study is to design a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) controller to regulate voltage of WECS which composed of wind turbine drives a PMSG which feeds a static and or dynamic loads. The STATCOM illustrated in this study is controlled using fuzzy logic controllers (FLC). STATCOM system is applied in isolated and grid-connected supply systems like, frequency & voltage control. The wind turbine system, Loads, STATCOM and FLC unit are modelled. In this case, we are using the fuzzy approach compared to another controller where, the fuzzy controller is the most proper for the human decision-making mechanism, providing the working of an electronic system with decisions of experts. The simulated studied here by using MATLAB/Simulink program is presented to a form of disturbances such as variations of load and variations of wind speed. The obtained simulation results show the performance of the proposed FLCs in terms of quick voltage regulation.
