This paper presents the finite element (FE) design and operational performance of a sinusoidal novel radial permanent-magnet electrical generator. The windings are with short ends and placed in flat slots. The high-energy rare-earth updated permanent magnets are buried inside soft magnetic material pieces of the rotor. The steady-state operational performance of the generator is concluded from the well-known nonlinear dynamical mathematical model of synchronous machine by dropping out all the time derivative terms and carrying out the necessary modifications to suit the constant flux generated by the magnets. To have a sinusoidal air-gap flux density distribution, the upper face of the rotor iron pieces is curved. The cogging torque of the machine is predicted using the principle of the virtual work enhanced by FE.
