A Cyber-Physical Photovoltaic Array Monitoring and Control System

Acyberphysicalsystemapproachforautility-scalephotovoltaic(PV)arraymonitoring andcontrolispresentedinthisarticle.Thissystemconsistsofsensorsthatcapture voltage,current,temperature,andirradianceparametersforeachsolarpanelwhichare thenusedtodetect,predictandcontroltheperformanceofthearray.Morespecifically thearticledescribesacustomizedmachine-learningmethodforremotefaultdetection and a computer vision framework for cloud movement prediction. In addition, a consensus-baseddistributedapproach isproposed for resourceoptimization,anda secureauthenticationprotocolthatcandetectintrusionsandcyberthreatsispresented. Theproposedsystemleveragesvideoanalysisofskylineimagerythatisusedalong withothermeasuredparameterstoreconfigurethesolarpanelconnectiontopology andoptimizepoweroutput.Additionalbenefitsofthiscyberphysicalapproachare associated with the control of inverter transients. Preliminary results demonstrate improvedefficiencyandrobustnessinrenewableenergysystemsusingadvancedcyber enabledsensoryanalysisandfusiondevicesandalgorithms.
