THE INVOLVEMENT OF ALCOHOL IN FATAL ACCIDENTS TO ADULT PEDESTRIANS

Approximately a third of all road accident fatality victims are pedestrians; this is a significantly higher proportion than among road accident casualties as a whole. The manner and circumstances of how their accidents occur is therefore of great importance in the reduction of road injury. An earlier review, published in the 1989 volume of 'Road Accidents Great Britain', highlighted the general circumstances of pedestrian accidents (see IRRD 846345). This paper aims to complement that work, describing the significant influence of drinking on adult fatality rates. (A) For the covering abstract of the book see IRRD 851478.
