Making use of a two stage multiplexing scheme in a WDM network

The paper explores the implications of using a two stage optical multiplexing scheme in optical WDM nodes. This allows to keep bands of adjacent wavelengths intact, thereby reducing the cost of multiplexing, increasing the number of hops and simplifying network management.
