On Switching Mechanisms for Beamforming and Multiuser MIMO for a WiMAX TDD System in Reverse Link

Worldwide Interoperability Microwave Access (WiMAX) is an important member of the IEEE 802.16 family. It offers solutions for Beyond-3G and future 4G systems. The deployment of Adaptive Antenna Systems (AAS) enables beamforming and Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques. In this Paper, mechanisms are investigated for switching between single user beamforming and multiuser MIMO within the WiMAX Time Division Duplex (TDD) mode, with respect to eigenvalue analysis. Throughout this paper, an IEEE 802.16e link level simulator is exploited for the performance evaluation.
