Fine carrier phase recovery method for APSK signals

For fine carrier phase recovery of amplitude and phase shift keying(APSK)signals, the hybrid non-data-aided/decision-directed(NDA/DD)method is simple to implement, but it suffers from relatively large jitter variance. To obtain better jitter variance performance, a novel fine carrier phase recovery method is proposed, which is based on the idea of constellation partitioning and a different nonlinear operation. Constellation partitioning takes full advantages of all constellation signals, and the nonlinear operation minimizes the jitter variance. This new method enhances significantly jitter performance of the hybrid NDA/DD method by more than 2 dB with only limited complexity increase. This method may be adopted in APSK receivers demanding strict carrier phase synchronization.
