Modeling people flow: a real life case study in ITU science center

Proper planning of layout plays a crucial role in the visitor satisfaction and effectiveness of the operations in design of an exhibition center. Exhibition layout design often incorporates complexity, since it involves many distinct variables like visitor attention, motivation, line of sight, number of guides, time spent on an exhibited object; or guided routes. In order to assure the success of such a decision, dynamics of the system, visitors' behavior, and the effects of a change on the layout configuration should be very well understood. Simulation might be a very useful tool for such layout evaluations with its success of analyzing the system as precisely as possible to comprehend the weak points, to observe the effects of changes on the system, and to increase efficiency in design. This paper introduces a simulation model structure as a quick and easy layout creation and evaluation method to be used in the process of exhibition layout planning and improvement.
