Design issues towards a high performance wireless USB device

WiMedia Alliance and Universal Serial Bus Implementers Forum (USB-IF) are making every effort to open a market for certified wireless USB (CWUSB), a new wireless version of widely known computer interface. Although WUSB is based on WiMedia Ultra WideBand (UWB) technology which promises maximum 480 Mbps of physical data rate, early WUSB products, unfortunately, are known to fall short of expectations on their performances. In this paper, we briefly explain what WUSB is, and discuss about considerable design parameters for high performance WUSB devices. The performances of WUSB devices are measured and compared using custom designed WUSB device, and the relative differences will show WUSB device designers the impact of design parameters on the performance of WUSB devices.
