Simulations of VIV on arrayed marine risers

Along with the depletion of oil and gas resources on land, energy industries have paid more attention to the exploitation of deep-sea oil and gas resources. Marine riser is an essential protector for offshore oil-gas field development, which connects the platform and submarine wellhead. As the complexity of the marine environment, marine riser vortex induced vibration has been the outstanding problem affecting the normal safe operation. Once riser is damaged, not only the project itself would suffer great losses, but also serious secondary disasters and environmental pollution would be brought up. Therefore simulations of vortex induced vibration on arrayed marine risers are presented using Computational Fluid Dynamics. Then streamlines, velocity and vorticity contour were obtained. Calculation results show that vortex-induced vibration intensity of arrayed risers is more obvious than that of isolated riser. Calculation results of this paper can provide a guide for safety design and operation of arrayed risers.
