Systematic identification of optimal process designs for the production of acetic acid via ethane oxidation

We present optimal process design technology for heterogeneously catalysed gas-phase reaction systems that enables the systematic identification of optimal process designs and the exploration of the relationships between design complexity and performance. The technology is applied to an industrially relevant process: the production of acetic acid via ethane oxidation. The purpose of the study is to explore design trends and identify key design features that maximise process performance.
