An overview of a new scalable video coding (SVC) extension of the H.264/AVC standard is given in this paper. A performance analysis is presented for quality and spatial scalability. Influence of the inter-layer prediction and the number of scalable layers to coding efficiency is shown. Results for CGS (coarse-grain quality scalability) and MGS (medium-grain quality scalability) coding are also compared.
