Consistency Conditions for the Classification in LIS/Cl

The classification component LIS/Cl of the Logic Information System LIS is established to supervise the classification process of the literature on mathematical logic. We define a formal model for LIS/Cl which is based on the distinction of a top-down and a bottom-up approach to representing the field of mathematical logic. This model gives rise to classification rules which capture conditions for a classification that is consistent with the mathematical contents of documents. The approach is extended by a model for (semi-)automatic document classification specifying formal conditions to determine descriptors that are suitable for classification.
