Critical Comparison of Vasotonometric (Réthy) and Ophthalmodynamometric Measurements

These investigations were performed to compare two different methods – ophthalmodynamometry and vasotonometry (Rethy). Vasotonometric measurements gave a coefficient of correlation of only r = 0.64 or 0.69, for the interdependence of brachial and ophthalmic blood pressure, respectively; the values obtained were unphysiologically low. These facts indicate a considerable technical imperfection in the method; however, it can be improved.
