The article analyses the fundamental role of life-long learning in furthering the innovation and growth of firms and territories in the knowledge-based economy. The first step in instilling an innovative culture in the country is to train human resources to deal with the changes induced by the Net-Economy. This was the need that led to the birth of ENEA's e-learning platform, now a well-established facility with more than 12,000 subscribers. At present the platform offers 38 technical and scientific courses, most of them created by ENEA researchers. Access is unlimited and free of charge.
