SOUTH AFRICAN OVERVIEW OF ROAD SAFETY

South Africa has a legal and regulatory system in place that compares well with the rest of the world. While there is an improvement in accident statistics in this decade, the traffic safety situation still compares poorly with the rest of the world. It appears as if the country is caught up in its own circumstances. The solution appears to be continuous, vigorous efforts on all fronts with the resources that are available. Improvement of the socioeconomic situation is considered equal, if not higher, importance, which stresses the need for the economy to grow and the requirement that the best economic policies to be put in place by the government of the day.
