Bangladesh is agriculture based country and optimization of this sector is being hampered due to lack of electricity and high prices of diesel fuel. An alternative option to overcome this crisis would be a solar based irrigation system which is a clean and environment friendly energy. A solar irrigation system of capacity 3KW has been installed in a remote location near Mymensingh which is about 120km distant from the capital. The economic analysis and life cycle cost of this system has been analyzed and is compared with its conventional counterpart diesel driven irrigation system. The analysis shows that for a long term investment a solar based irrigation system is an economically feasible option. The result analysis has been presented in this paper.
