Application of plasma techniques for exhaust aftertreatment

The application of non-thermal plasma produced by electrical discharges in combination with catalytic converters for reduction of pollutants in automotive exhausts is reviewed in the text. The possibility of an efficient degradation of NOx and hydrocarbons (HC) in exhaust emissions is discussed. Conversion of various hydrocarbon types (toluene, n-heptane) affected by gliding discharge plasma was experimentally analysed using liquid and gas chromatography.
